Purpose of my Game

The purpose of my game is to make players have fun while having an challenge at the same time either by beating friends or a more world wide scale.

What is a brief?

Contractual Brief

  • Advantage - Gives the company an idea of what the client wants to achieve, whilst also initiating a stable price range, where the client and the employer  will agree on a set income.
  •  Disadvantage- Is that the client may require a heavy workload from the employer and a lot of creativity is required.
  • How this could help me: This could help me by making my brief a more legal document and show the audience how the company organises its work. This would engage more with the audience and create a better relationship.

Formal Brief

  • Advantage-  Document itself is clear, as well as concise, as is lacks in any form of complexity. Also, as it is not always a legal-binding document, the company can express their opinion, as well as having the ability to work around the contract.
  • Disadvantage- Is that the contract is very general, the employer as well as the client, may disagree on the terms of each other's decisions, and opinions which are listed in the contract.
  • How this could help me: This could help me because i could show how i want the company and product to do, it is a simple and easy to make also which would save more time.

Informal Brief

  • Advantage:  No real guideline to the brief, it it very free, and the employer will be allowed to influence their own opinions into the document.
  • Disadvantage:  Expectations proclaimed by the client may interface with ethos of the employer, who may not want to perform a task that involves a heavy workload.
  • How this could help me: This would save time and will show the conversation between the client and the employer, and show the agreement that has taken place.

Co-Operative Brief

  • Advantage: Variety of ideas  and whilst adding a social side to it as well.
  • Disadvantage: Individuals who are in the team may disagree with others.

Negotiated Brief

  • Advantage: Brings ideas of the client and employer together, and merges them into one creating a brief suitable for both the employer and the client
  • Disadvantage:  Could come to a disagreement, that may result the employer losing the potential work.

Commission Brief

  • Advantage: Independent production company will be paid for creating the specific product, and my receive a fraction of the profit that is generated.
  • Disadvantage: When the project is launched the large company may develop a sense of corporate  greed, not giving the independent institution enough credit

Tender Brief

  • Advantage: A lot of competition, the employer will be more determined and motivated to produce a high-quality proposal, that will secure them work from the client
  • Disadvantage: Because of the competition, an employer is likely to be disheartened over losing work set by the client, to another company.

Competition Brief

  • Advantage:  Because of competition, the employer will strive to pitch themselves to the client in the most sufficient way.
  • Disadvantage: Brief is generally free to join, the winner of the competition may have to pay a fee for being crowned victorious .

Brief

A brief  is a plan , and a set of instructions given to each person to reach the same adjective.

Games development brief -   Should contain the details necessary to build the game so that everyone on the team is working to the same plan and design. Prototype is a good way to test your game as see how it will work out with the players before developing all the game. Post your game online to get feedback from the community.

Brief Plan: I will use this to help me make my brief, i will use brief to plan my idea and the all the necessary details of the idea of the game. Also make the first level so everyone has a example of the game will look and feel. The brief will include all the ideas I'm planning to have in my game.

Revenge Of The Soldier
Escape Space

I came up with some ideas for games and i used decision making to choice a final idea. I achieved this by making a popplet and putting ideas for each game down, then choosing the game i think would do the best. This made sure that i had a final idea.

This should be a detailed mindmap/brainstorm

Why is my Game Unique

My game is unique, although it is similar game style and gameplay to Mario my game includes new aspect like  abilities, secret puzzles the player has to figure out to get rewards and past levels. The player can also interact with the levels to help him past obstacles. This makes the player entertained and have to think more to get past levels.  Also I'm always thinking of new things to improve the gameplay and movement.

How i will achieve my idea?

Achieve my idea by watching unity tutorials to get a feel and know what i'm doing with the software, then to create my own unique game.

Interview

Q&A Analysis

This shows that 88% people who did the questionnaire are male. This could suggest that most people who play video games are male, but this could not be true as most of the people i just asked could of been male.

This shows that most people who did the questionnaire are between 15-17 years old. I could use this data for my game to see what rating my game should be as i want to reach to the biggest audience possible. And it looks like the most people who play video games are teenagers, so i would use this data to make it intrest teenagers more that other age groups.

This shows that people spend a average of 48 hours playing on consoles, phones and computers every week. This shows that i have to make a game that could last up to lots of game hours so they would never get bored playing for that long. Also shows that there is still a community in gaming.

This shows that most people play on the next gen consoles more than anything else, i will use this research to try to get my game out to as my platforms as possible but this research shows that i should focus on getting it to the next gen first as that is the most popular choice by most people .

This shows that most people favourite genre of game is fps, i will use this data to help build my game as i will somehow add some fps to my game, so i can bring in more people.

This shows that most people play multiplayer this is because people want to play games with friends not alone, i will use this data to try to make my game multiplayer and single player so it reaches to everyone and not just one kind of community.

This shows if people still play 2d games as much as they do 3d games, the data shows that most people still play 2d games. I will use this data to make my game 2d to make my game different than most games today.

This shows if people are a  competitive gamer. This data shows that most people today are a competitive gamer this means i will try to make my game competitive by making the game fair and skill base, so it can become a competitive game.

This shows what people prefer to play with a controller or a keyboard and mouse. The data shows that most people would like to play with controller what means i will try to make them both compatible for all platforms, so more people feel comfortable playing my game.

Risk Taking - As my game only uses keyboard and mouse, i'm taking a risk that you can not use a controller as i may lose customers.

Why i'm undertaking this research?

I'm undertaking this research to receive info on what people would like to see in modern games today, and also what social platform people mostly use to watch trailer and find new games. As well as the age group of most people who play games. Market research to find out what my competitors do and how they sell their game and get feedback from the community.

  • Primary Research: I need to undergo primary research to find out what kind of games people play and what's certain age groups play what games.
  •  Secondary research: How other companies promote their game, and sell their game to the public.

Why am I Researching?

I am researching because it will help me get a higher grade and make my more appealing , it will develop my understanding of different types of games and how to make them more professional and appealing to the audience.

What should be included in my Research?

In my research i will include other platforms games and see how they became successful from there game

Ideas From Other Games

From the 3 games what are similar to mine, i have looked at them in detail and took some ideas from them to improve my game. I wanted a game what was arcade and points base like broforce but also wanted some power ups and puzzle/mini game like super mario, so thats what i did. I took the theme from space invaders of space to fit to my game. I also looked at how the games were promoted and took ideas, on how to promote my game to get a wider range of audience see my game.

Digital Enterprise Skills Evaluation

During unit 7, i used problem solving to help me finish my coding for my game. I achieved this by going on the Unity 3D forms and looking how to make your character pick up coins. This website was helpful as someone posted a solution to the problem i was having, i then imported i to my work. Some websites were not helpful like Brackeys forms as they did not have helpful information or the solution to my problem. This made sure i found a solution to my problem and that i was able to complete my game without any errors.

During unit 7, i used communication from my peers to help get feedback for my game. I achieved this by making my peers from class play my game and give me  ( Tom, Ryan, Lewis ) constructive and positive feedback on my game. This would help me because i will get feedback on what to improve with my game and if there was any glitches such as when the player died with the gun he would not respawn with it as well as it not being in the world.

During unit 7, i used testing/evaluation to help me test my game. I achieved this by every time i added something new to my game i would test to see if it would work correctly. This made sure everything was working right with my game and if something did go wrong then i would use problem solving to fix it.

During unit 7, i used time management to make sure i would finish before the deadline. I achieved this by regularly looking at my time management sheet to make sure i was keeping on track with the tasks and time. This made sure i would not miss the deadline.

During unit 7, i used flexibility

  • YouTube to promote my trailer and gameplay to the community, i can also pay YouTubers to promote my game and give feedback to the community on what they like about the game.
  • Twitter to share the trailer and any updates or improvements to the game.
  • Facebook almost the same as twitter to get feedback and release updates on the game.

Brief

My game is a platformer game called the Escape Space . The game is about an astronaut who crashed landed on a strange planet after his mission into space, now he is searching the planet for resources to hopefully get some communication with earth or rebuild his ship. But  he does not know what mysteries lie on the planet.  The purpose of the game is to have fun and not keep the player bored to the lack of gameplay and things to do.

My target audience is 7+ as it is a very friendly game and any age could play it, no violence and swearing involved. I would also say it's 7+ because of the friendly looking player and ai used, the game is also not hard to play as it uses the basic controls to any pc game. I think 7+ would have fun playing this game as it is an very easy and simple game to play, but sometimes can but up a challenge for the player.

  Gameplay

The game will be an Arcade/Platform game, the gameplay will be like Broforce but with some twist. The goal of the game is to complete all the levels by collecting items and leveling up your character to get back to earth. The gameplay can also be competitive with friends or other people as you try to see who can get the most points on each level.

Competitive Positioning

Arcade/platformer style of games are not very popular, what could lean as a advantage and disadvantage. I'm hoping people would see my game and think it's something different from what they have been seeing in the gaming community. I think my game would appeal to my target audience if they saw the game as it's very simple, but can be competitive among friends.

Why my game is unique

Target Audience

My target audience for my game is 7+, i know this because there's no much violence and swearing involved, also i have looked at some similar games to mine and they are either 3+ or 7+. The reason my game is 7+ not  3+ is because the game will have some shooting involved but no blood or gore involved.

New Super Mario Bros is 3+.

I used communication from my peers to help get feedback for my game. I achieved this by making my peers from my class play my game and give me constructive and positive feedback on my game. This would help me because

Evaluation

The aim of this project was to make a game, i choice to make a arcade/platform game. I did my research into these sort of games and 2d games itself to get a better understanding of how they sold their games and promoted it. The survey helped me with some ideas of what the public like which was handy. When I finished the research I started creating the game with my ideas. I did use some skills to create this game like creativity skill I am happy of how the game has turned out as it looks very positive with the different types of assets and textures used in the world. One of the main things i like is when the character moves so does the background with giving a cool effect. One of the things what went wrong is when the player fell of the gun would not be with the character any more, i will try to fix this using problem solving and help to complete this. So at the moment my game is just a tutorial level so the player could get a feel for the game. But I am hoping to improve the game and make it have objectives or quests and enemies to make people do something in the game. So ways of improving my game would be using my problem solving skills to fix these pieces of coding to make the game more interesting for the people playing it. Once the problems have been fixed it should be a successful game.
